Fans Praise Robert Irwin As ‘Chip Off The Old Block’ As He Feeds Alligator

Robert Irwin is once again reminding fans of the similarities he shares with his legendary father, Steve Irwin.

Until his death in September 2006, Steve was known for his love of wildlife, appreciating any opportunity to instill the same passion in his children. And if the clip of Robert showing his nephew — Grace Warrior Irwin Powell — on the ropes at their famous zoo is any indication, his father’s lessons paid off, and fans are thrilled to see it.

Robert looked at the house as he went from one section of the Australia Zoo to the crocodile sanctuary, where he wanted to show his two-year-old nephew how to feed the reptiles. Grace is held by her doting mother Bindi as her 19-year-old uncle jumps into the enclosure to feed the thick-scaly reptile named Daisy.

“We’re going to watch Uncle Robert and Dada [Chandler Powell] feed the crocodile,” Bindi could be heard saying from a safe distance behind the fence as her daughter began to wiggle her fingers and count out loud.

Robert explains that his nephew “counted alligators” before starting the business of feeding Daisy. After showing off the reptile’s “blunt” teeth and “strong” jaws, the teenager, who looked just like his dad in a monochromatic shirt and shorts, fed him the sausage-style meat. As he undertook the difficult task, he explained:

“They are very sweet. My father called them frogs with shark teeth because that’s what they are.”

Once Daisy finishes her dinner, the zookeeper turns the camera to Bindi and Grace, asking her opinion. He simply – and passionately – replied, “Love you, Daisy.” The recording touched the hearts of those familiar with his late father’s work, and the comment section was expected to be sad with nostalgic reactions.

“I grew up watching Steve as a kid, and I was just brought back to sit at my Grandparents house and feel the same feeling all over again,” this fan wrote. A second person said, “She must be the one who knows nothing from her father. Love for all animals. Absolutely amazing. Little Grace is so cute.”

A third fan commented, “Robert is a natural. Sweet video, with Daisy’s strong teeth!” and a fourth declared, “Steve would be proud of his baby and grandkids! ❤️?❤️.”

Besides making his father proud, Robert is a photographer who specializes in nature photography and shows it through his website. So far, his portfolio includes photographs of nature and animals, streets and architecture, and landscapes.

Luckily, juggling wildlife photography and her conservation career didn’t stop her from walking her sister down the aisle during her wedding to Powell in 2020. In fact, it was one of the best experiences of her life, as she gushed over the ceremony, according to The Blast:

“Walking my sister down the aisle was one of the most special moments of my life. Bindi, you have been the greatest sister and friend, always there for me through it all, and I couldn’t be happier that you found Chandler.”

“Crikey! It’s the Irwins” Star Counts Herself Lucky to Have a Dad Like Steve

A month after the Irwin family marked the 16th anniversary of Steve’s death, The Blast reports that Robert has opened up about what he did to emulate the late patriarch. In the words of the “Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove” star:

“I think what Dad really showed the world was, of course, to have an appreciation for the natural world and to treat every creature on the planet as you would want to be treated.” After pointing out that it was a lesson his father taught him and his sister before his death, the television personality added:

“I think that’s something I will always carry with me. I think more than anything, I hope I really get this message across that life is short and we have to live each day to the fullest.”

Robert also admitted that he will “always feel very lucky” to have “the most amazing Dad in the world, who is truly a superhero.”
