Fans React To News Of ‘Rush Hour 4’ In Works, Urge For ‘Racist’ Jokes To Continue

Jackie Chan has restored fans’ faith in the “Rush Hour” franchise!

After several false starts, including an acknowledgment from Chan that he had agreed to the script in October 2017 and Chris Tucker confirming that he was ready to start filming in February 2018 — with nothing to show for it — it looks like “Rush Hour 4” may finally be happening. Chan recently confirmed that the project is in the works, prompting fan requests for some good, old-fashioned racial humor.

While it’s unlikely that “Rush Hour 4” will be released this year — meaning filming could begin next year with a summer 2024 release at the latest — fans have already started making suggestions for the cast and crew.

Upon seeing the news of the fourth movie, a Twitter user tweeted, “Busy time 4 at work??? Actually, I wish they kept some racist jokes in there like the other 3 movies, or I don’t want it because it’s never offensive, everyone laughs.

Second person demanded they pray that “this movie era isn’t too sensitive about Rush Hour 4,” asking others to “imagine Rush Hour without the comedy racism.” A YouTuber expressed some hope that “Rush Hour 4 is good” because “we need more good comedy movies.”

Another Twitter user sounded“I don’t need the Gen Z version [of] Rush Hour 4. Give me that wild, uncancelled ’90s crap,” and the fifth told the screenwriters to save “Busy Time 4” if it “doesn’t come out of pocket like 1 and 2.”

A potential audience mentioned“It’s going to be really funny when the tone of Rush Hour 4 changes DRASTICALLY because they’re not going to use all the scripts full of microaggressions in 2025.”

Meanwhile, one more fan concerned that the movie “won’t hit because the two of them making racist jokes canceling the culture will get butthurt.”

Chan discussed the possibility of a fourth film in the “Rush Hour” series during a rare appearance on stage at the Red Sea Film Festival on December 9. After informing the audience that “we are talking about part 4 now,” the martial artist revealed that he had a meeting with the project’s director that evening to talk about the script.

Although he avoided naming the director, it is worth noting that film producer Brett Ratner directed the first three parts of the film series. Unfortunately, Ratner has not sat in the director’s chair for almost a decade.

According to Deadline, seven women – including actresses Natasha Henstridge and Olivia Munn – have accused him of sexual misconduct and harassment, prompting Warner Bros to end their lucrative partnership with the producer and director.

Although “Rush Hour” was released on September 18, 1998, its sequel followed on August 3, 2001, and the third part was dropped on August 10, 2007.

Not long after he celebrated his 68th birthday, Chan shared some exciting news with his dear fans. The Hong Kong star attached a photo of the celebration he enjoyed with other members of the JC Stunt Team to his statement which began:

“It’s that time of year again and I’ve received so many messages and well wishes. I want to say a sincere ‘thank you’ to all my friends and fans from all over the world for your happy birthday wishes!”

The Blast reported that the “Little Tiger of Canton” star later expressed his relief to be back at work after the global shutdown caused by the pandemic, adding that he’s excited that things are “starting to get back to normal.” Chan also gave an update on his physical health, writing:

“Many people ask me about the back pain I had before. I just want to let everyone know, don’t worry! I feel better now.”

Chan’s joy was almost palpable when he announced what he had done on his birthday, “Honestly, for me, working on my birthday is like giving the biggest honor on my birthday. Ha ha! Especially after thinking about the days when I stopped working because of the epidemic, being able to start working again is considered very lucky.”

He concluded by expressing his hope that everyone “will appreciate this auspicious and encouraging time” and thanked fans once again for their many birthday messages.
