Father of 3 killed in grocery store beating — 3 teens arrested after ‘laughing and enjoying themselves’

Three teenagers have been arrested for beating a father of three in Ohio to death.

Columbus police said the incident happened at 7pm on December 6.

The three young men allegedly courted the victim, Donnie Smith, 53, inside a Kroger grocery store, WSXY-TV reported.

The suspect was asked to leave by security after fighting with customers inside the store, and then the fight continued outside, police said.

Smith was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

One friend who was with Smith at the time told WSXY the group was “trying to pick anyone they could.”

Charging documents obtained by the local ABC station say Smith was “unconscious and bleeding from the head from being beaten” and that the group was “laughing and having fun” while attacking him.

Smith died two weeks after the attack, media reported.

The suspect left the scene in a red vehicle, police said.

Police did not say how homicide detectives tracked them down, but they said they arrested 18-year-old Dionta Hughes, 19-year-old Jamarion Evans-Bennett and 17-year-old Jayden Agee on murder charges.

Photos of Hughes and Evans-Bennett were released, but not Agee because he was a minor.
