Six brazen cat burglars armed with fire extinguishers ransacked a Chanel store in Washington, DC, Sunday, making off with $250,000 worth of merchandise, police said.
Shocking surveillance footage shows the group entering the high-end retailer around 5:30pm and grabbing as many handbags as they could fit into their hands.
One of the robbers deployed a wildly spraying fire extinguisher to distract the workers, who had just 30 minutes left to close the luxury store for the day.
An armed security guard employed by Chanel fired a shot at the fleeing thieves as they rushed back outside with their loot, but the bullet missed the mark, according to Second District Cmdr. Tatjana Savoy from the Metropolitan Police Department.
The six thieves jumped back into a white sedan that they had casually left outside with its dangers for the heist.
They lifted about 99 designer purses, police said. The loot is worth about a quarter of a million dollars, Fox 5 reported.

Police are still hunting the six thieves, two of whom held the door while the other four went inside, Savoy said.
The suspect who used the fire extinguisher did not attack anyone with the weapon.
“They used a fire extinguisher – an agent – and they used it to distract the workers to take the merchandise,” Savoy said.
