Flav took to Instagram to share an update on his “sobriety journey” and thank those who have supported him along the way,

The hype man and rapper, who started smoking at the age of 6, revealed that he is now “3 years smoke free.”

He also stated that he had given up his other vices, such as alcohol and drugs, and advised those still struggling with addiction not to give up.

He wrote, “Soon I will be sober 3 years from alcohol. And I have been 15+ years sober from drugs. I am proud to share my sobriety journey and Thankx to my friends and family and those who support me.”

The singer added, “To everyone out there struggling with addiction, it’s a real battle you fight every day. But I’m still here and you know, I did it, and if I can do it, anyone can!!!”

In his update, Flav also advised the media not to use his past for “clickbait headlines.”

He said, “To every media outlet that tries to capitalize on the topic of my goodwill and bring up my past or old interviews for sensational clickbait headlines, do better and raise my future.”

Doubling down on his statement, the 64-year-old rapper asked that the channel “allow people to grow and change in a supportive way.”

He continued, “Don’t let anyone hold you back in your past, I wear a watch, my watch goes clockwise, not counterclockwise, Look forward not back.”

In addition to his position, Flav also shared a certificate of excellence for being smoke-free for three years, awarded by the Bebas Rokok organization. His post has since garnered thousands of likes from his 317k followers.

He Used To Spend Almost $3000 On Rock Cocaine Every Day

Earlier that year, the legendary Flavor Flav revealed that, when he was still an addict, he donated nearly $3,000 to rock cocaine every day.

“There was a time when I was spending $2,400 to $2,600 a day, for six straight years … you can count,” Flav said while appearing on the “Off the Record” podcast with DJ Akademiks, per New York Post. “That’s how much I spent on drugs.”

“I’m not going to lie, I sell a lot — but I’m my best customer,” added the 63-year-old Public Enemy rapper. “I had a lot of money at the time, I just did the wrong thing with my money.”

The hip-hop legend also expressed his belief that his survival from drug addiction was divine intervention, allowing him to remind others of his mistakes and help them find a better path.
