Florida man fatally shoots ex in broad-daylight attack in front of her grandmother

A Florida man was arrested after allegedly pistol-whipping his ex-girlfriend and shooting her in front of her grandmother in broad daylight, police said.

Anthony Quinn Peyton, 25, was sentenced Monday for killing London Price, 26, in a brutal attack that happened after he moved in with her in an apartment in Miami-Dade County, WPLG reported.

Police said the woman was pistol-whipped several times before being fatally shot on October 23. Footage later revealed Peyton running away armed with a gun.

Nedra Allen, Price’s aunt, described the alleged killer as an “animal”. He has urged the police to track down Peyton, stating that the former couple had “issues” while they were dating.

Allen described her niece as a kind person who always looked out for others, suggesting she tried to help Peyton when she allowed him to stay with her despite their breakup.

“He would give you the shirt off his back, and I think that’s what got him in this situation until he got hurt,” the grieving aunt said.

Allen added that Price is a transgender woman, with the Transgender Justice Initiative at the Human Rights Campaign issuing a statement regarding her murder.

“London has so many friends and family members who loved him but are now filled with grief following his tragic murder,” said Tori Cooper, director of community engagement for the organization.

“We must stop the epidemic of violence targeting transgender and non-binary people and the national crisis of gun violence. This crisis is especially dangerous for Black and Brown transgender women.”

Since it began tracking violent deaths of trans people in 2013, the Human Rights Campaign found that nearly 70 percent of victims were shot to death. The majority of them were killed by their current or former partners, and about 76 percent of them were black trans women.

Peyton was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Broward County Main Jail.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, as Broward and Miami-Dade County police continue to investigate the case.
