Florida man impersonated police while wearing Buccaneers jersey and flashing red, blue lights: authorities

A Tampa, Florida man was arrested Sunday after allegedly trying to pull over a vehicle with his pickup truck equipped with flashing red and blue lights, and while wearing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey, authorities said.

The driver, identified as 62-year-old Earl Mitchell Cesario, has been charged with falsely impersonating an officer in Sumter County.

On Sunday morning, a member of the Florida Highway Patrol learned of a red GMC truck trying to pull over another vehicle while running red and blue lights, FOX 13 in Tampa reported.

At approximately 11 a.m., the trooper spotted and stopped a red pickup truck, driven by Cesario, on the northbound side of I-75 near Bushnell.

Police spoke with Cesario, who allegedly admitted to having red and blue lights that were on his dashboard before it was recalled.

But the lights, he told the military, were never activated.

During the investigation, troopers spoke with a male witness who said he was heading north on I-75 when a red GMC Sierra came up from behind and started flashing red and blue lights.

The witness told troopers he believed the red truck might be an undercover law enforcement vehicle, describing how the truck driver signaled for him to stop before speeding off.

When troopers searched Cesario’s pickup truck, red and blue lights were found.

When plugged into two electrical sockets in the vehicle, the light comes on.
