A Florida mother who believed she was “God” allegedly admitted to strangling her 13-year-old son to death because she wanted to save him from the devil, court records say.
Jasmin Kennedy was arrested Monday after allegedly strangling her son in his bed at the family’s home in Osceola County.
The 37-year-old mother called herself “Yahweh” — meaning “God” in Hebrew, according to court records.
While in custody, Kennedy was asked by detectives if he knew why he was being interviewed.
Kennedy said “she was questioned about sending her son home,” court documents obtained by WFTV state.
When asked to explain his comments about his son, Kennedy was quoted as saying that he “saved him from the devil.”
Detectives also noted that the mother of two called herself “Yahweh,” which translates from Hebrew as “God.”
Kennedy is charged with first degree premeditated murder, domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated child abuse and child neglect.

A judge on Tuesday ordered the woman held without bond.
The tragedy occurred when sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. Monday and raced to a home in St. Cloud to find Kennedy’s 13-year-old son dead in bed.
Kennedy “spontaneously” admitted to first responders that she had choked her son, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said during a news conference.

Kennedy shares a home with his mother, his mother’s boyfriend and his own two sons, ages 5 and 13.
The woman’s young child was sleeping upstairs above her brother and was present during the fatal attack, according to officials.
The youngster ran for help, but when anyone at home realized what was happening, the 13-year-old could not be saved.

Paramedics called to the home on Crosley Avenue found the teenager lying on her bed. He died at the scene.
“It’s always a tragedy when someone so young is taken,” Lopez said. “Their lives were just taken from them. It’s ideal, especially when you have children.”
