A Florida school teacher was arrested after she was caught on surveillance footage grabbing a kindergartner by the neck and throwing her to the ground, police said.
Khadijah Tynnettta Muhammad, 54, attacked the child, who was not one of her students, at Margate Elementary School in Broward County on Oct. 10 in front of other students and staff, according to a police report obtained by WPLG.
School security footage showed the boy sitting on the floor in a hallway with other students before class when he threw a piece of paper at several classmates, police said.
Muhammad then marched over and grabbed the boy by his left wrist “in an aggressive manner,” police said.
“He proceeded to lift her off the ground by his arms, twist her arm and grab the back of her shirt while pushing her into the hallway,” an officer wrote in the arrest report.
“He tore the jacket off his back and continued to grab the student’s arms, wrists, shirt and jacket until the altercation ended,” police said.
“Towards the end of the video, which is partially blocked from the camera’s view, he appears to grab her by the neck and slam her to the ground.”

“I know our kids can act out sometimes, but if there’s a problem, leave the discipline up to the parents,” Nikki Glasco said.
Muhammad was still working in the district as of Friday, according to officials.
“The school is working closely with law enforcement regarding this situation, and the teacher involved has been reassigned from the student and the school pending the outcome of the case,” the district said in a statement.
