Florida teens suspended for spreading AI-generated nudes of classmates

Two students were suspended from a Miami high school last week for creating and circulating AI-generated nude images of dozens of traumatized classmates, according to reports.

Administrators at Pinecrest Cove Preparatory Academy suspended two boys for making images so disturbing that some of the victims did not want to return to class.

Perpetrators obtained headshots of students – both male and female – from the school’s social media accounts and used deepfake AI applications to create nude images.

The explicit pictures were shared among students on social media.

One parent said her daughter hesitated to return to school because of embarrassment and fear.

“She has been crying,” parent Vanessa Posso told CBS. “He hasn’t eaten yet. He’s just mentally unstable. He cheered and he didn’t want to come to school to do it.”

The offending students were suspended for 10 days from the Florida charter school, but some parents want them booted permanently.

Dozens of students were allegedly victims at the school.

“Our daughters don’t feel comfortable going back to school with these boys in the same hallway,” parent Nadia Kahn-Roberts said, according to the outlet.

Fake nudity of unsuspecting students is sweeping districts across the country, with administrators scrambling to curb the disturbing trend.

More than 30 female students at New Jersey’s Westfield High School fell victim to the practice in October after learning the resulting images went viral.

“I had no idea how complex and scary AI technology would be,” Francesca Mani, 15, told NBC. “I was shocked that the other girls and I were betrayed by our classmates.”

“Our daughters don’t feel comfortable going back to school with these boys in the same hallway,” said one parent.

Distinguishing between genuine and AI-powered fake images has become increasingly difficult — and victims often have limited legal recourse, the network reported.

Some of the images featured graphic sexual activity and often provoked bullying and teasing at school.

New Jersey lawmakers have introduced a bill that would make fake pornography illegal, and subject to criminal and civil penalties.

Parents call for expulsion of two students behind deepfakes.

Texas, Minnesota and New York have passed laws criminalizing fake pornography without consent.

California and Illinois have laws that allow victims to sue perpetrators for civil damages.

But law enforcement officials admit that curbing the problem will be difficult – and that countless fake nudes may already be circulating the internet.
