Lots of “Jeopardy!” fans will probably recognize Austin Rogers from his hot 2017 streak. He used some of his winnings to buy a bar in New York City called Gaf East. In a video obtained by TMZ, a photog asks Austin how he feels about Mayim’s passing.

When asked if his decision to step down because of the strike affected his job, Austin replied, “I think it’s a good time to step down [to host] at that time. We don’t want to cross the picket line. […] But at the same time, I don’t think that was a factor for him to leave.”

Austin also feels that he hasn’t left the show completely and feels that he will return to host the prime time special. Austin feels that the continuation of having one host – Ken Jennings – will attract more fans, while he feels that Mayim Bialik’s fans will support her for the premiere and spin-off shows, such as “Celebrity Jeopardy!”

“Ken Jennings has been synonymous with the word ‘Jeopardy!’ for over 17 decades because he’s an eternally youthful vampire,” he joked, adding that Ken had “got” a “days” job.

During a December 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ken Jennings revealed that he was “caught off guard” by the decision but admitted that he felt “extremely lucky” to be chosen as the next sole host of the show following the late host’s death. Alex Trebek due to pancreatic cancer in November 2020.

“It made me lose control, because I love working with my Mayim and I will miss her. I can’t talk about his decision-making process or what he thinks about it,” he explained. “But at the end of the day, I’m just a fan of Jeopardy! and I’m always happy to host when they call me. I feel very fortunate to have been considered for this job as a non-broadcaster.”

“It’s a strange thing to try to bring back a former contestant to host, and I’ve obviously learned as I go. But I loved growing up with Jeopardy! where Alex hosted the show for almost 38 years, and people feel like he’s part of their family, and it’s impossible to fill those shoes,” he continued. “But it’s an honor and I hope I look forward to another 37 years to do it, when I’ll be a very old man.”
