Former NY Gov. Pataki backs GOP hopeful Eisen in Senate race against Gillibrand

Former Republican New York Governor George Pataki is backing Josh Eisen’s bid to unseat two-term Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand later this year.

“New York deserves a senator who not only understands our state’s challenges but also has the courage and practical wisdom to address the complexities in Washington. Josh Eisen is that leader,” said Pataki, 78, as he announced his support for the GOP candidate.

“His extensive humanitarian work combined with innovative thinking and legal acumen make him uniquely qualified to bring about the change we so desperately need.”

Eisen, a billionaire Westchester businessman and major Republican donor, entered the race in December to capitalize on the red tide sweeping Long Island in the 2022 midterm elections.

Whoever wins the Republican nomination will face an uphill battle to unseat Gillibrand, 57, in the deep-blue Empire State.

Eisen’s task could become more difficult if another candidate enters the race from the right and splits the GOP vote.

Next week’s House election between Democrat Tom Suozzi and Republican Mazi Philip could be an early indicator of whether the GOP can capitalize on its New York momentum.

“I am confident that with Josh Eisen in the Senate, New York will have a representative who will not only fight for them but also bring a refreshing and common-sense approach to governance,” added Pataki, who left office in 2007 and remains the newest Republican. to hold statewide office in New York.

Eisen, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2020, said he was “humbled and honored” by the endorsement.

“I’ve been traveling across our great state for the past several months and talking to New Yorkers every day about what matters most, and that’s the economy, jobs, cost of living, crime and the lack of immigration enforcement,” he said, adding, ” Our leaders are completely out of touch with the reality that people face every day.”
