The former “Teacher of the Year” at a Florida high school accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student multiple times in his car has pleaded guilty to continuing the broken relationship.
Brittiny Lopez-Murray, 33, pleaded guilty Wednesday to multiple charges, including lewd and lascivious battery, lewd and lasciviousness on a child and transmission of harmful electronics to a minor, NBC Miami reported.
In exchange, he was sentenced to two years of community control and 10 years of probation, and was required to register as a sex offender and attend a program for mentally disturbed sex offenders, according to the outlet.
Lopez-Murray, whose appeal was approved by the victim’s family, did not want to comment after his sentencing.
He was a drama teacher at Hialeah High School when he was arrested in October 2021.
The teenager was his student when he attended high school, but was in high school at the time of the incident.

Lopez-Murray, who was named “Teacher of the Year” in 2017, texted the teenager two months earlier about his “feelings for her,” according to the police report.
The teacher and student exchanged texts detailing “how much they enjoyed each other’s sex,” the report said.
He would sometimes pick her up after basketball practice and then the two would have sex in his car, according to officials.

The pair met for coffee, which led to several dates where they would have sexual encounters in his car, including in the parking lot of a shopping mall, Crime Online reported.
“The defendant also groomed, enticed, encouraged the victim to send child pornography by writing things like, ‘perfect, and delicious,'” according to the arrest affidavit cited by the outlet.
Lopez-Murray’s actions came to light after the student’s sister saw explicit texts and photos between her and the teacher, the report said.
