Francia Raisa Gets Candid About Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Diagnosis

Francia Raisa has given fans a new health update.

The actor, who is best known for donating a kidney to his former BFF and actress, Selena Gomez, in 2017 when the latter was battling lupus-related organ damage, shared that she had been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

The update comes shortly after the “How I Met Your Father” star celebrated her 35th birthday and soaked up the sun with friends on the beach in Malibu, California over the weekend.

While Raisa often avoids sharing intimate details about her life online, she made a slight detour when she unexpectedly shared some health-related news with her 1.7 million followers on Instagram. Taking her story, she reposted a video from her friend and author, Candice Craig’s Story that highlighted the launch of her book, “Living With PCOS: Road To Reversal.”

“My friend wrote a book about PCOS,” she wrote on the repost before dropping an image showing a copy of the book, along with some cutlery and cocktails, on a table. On the other side of this second Story, the “Bring It On: All or Nothing” actress revealed, “I also have PCOS and am still learning how to live with it. Thanks for this @candice.”

Almost a week before the revelation, Raisa’s friend Craig had uploaded ten pieces of multimedia content to his Instagram feed, starting with a two-in-one picture highlighting her weight difference. While the image on the left shows her looking bigger in a white dress with a midriff cut, the other shows off her trim figure in a green sleeveless one-piece.

Next, fans see the “Chocolate City” star in the middle of filming where she explains what PCOS is before she appears in a second video holding a wrapped copy of her new book. Other slides include shots of food, a look at Craig creating content, and a close-up of his tome. Below the slide, the 35-year-old wrote in part:

“This book is more than just words on paper, it is my truth, my struggle, and my success, wrapped in one. I still remember the days when PCOS made me feel defeated, questioning if there was any hope for change. But in my darkest moments, I found the spark that led me down this path of healing. I literally asked you what you wanted to know about my discoveries while on this trip and you told me what you needed so I put it all in one place for you. This is something I wish I had when I was first diagnosed.”

The post immediately struck a chord with Craig’s fans, who congratulated and praised him for a job well done in the comments.

One person said, “So happy to see this! I first learned about PCOS from you! Not the doctor, from YOU. So years later, to see this book come to fruition and you turn it around and manage it, is phenomenal.” A second fan commented, “So proud of you ???… Energy sold out!,” and a third exclaimed, “Candice is amazing! Congratulations! Always proud of you.”

Years after the public’s interest in her and Gomez’s friendship began, Raisa opened up about her volunteer act of donating a kidney to the “Only Murder in the Building” cast. The Blast notes that the pair’s bond first gained attention when Gomez publicly revealed that she had undergone a kidney transplant and praised her former best friend’s selflessness towards her.

However, it didn’t take long before rumors began to spread that Raisa might be forced to make the move. As the speculation has persisted for years, the “Beyond Paradise” actor had to put them to rest when he appeared on the “Good Guys” podcast earlier this month.

While there, he confirmed that his gesture was voluntary, rooted in their enduring friendship, along with a genuine desire to help his friend in need. As he said:

“I just felt it in my heart, I knew I was the match. I knew it would happen. No one forced me to do anything. It came out of the pure goodness of my heart, and I have been blessed ever since.”

Additionally, the experience prompted her to become more aware of her health, causing her to “take better care of herself” than before.
