He was originally noticed as the bass guitarist for the gospel group Winans, later as one of the six original members of the group commissioned in 1985, and has appeared on 10 of the group’s 12 albums.

His music ensemble Radical For Christ sold millions of copies, and it was that album that helped him become famous in the gospel world. In 2002, he returned to the group Commissioned and produced a live CD of commissioned sessions.
