Moroccan American rapper French Montana called 50 Cent a “genius” for using his feuds with other stars as a marketing strategy for his songs.

He also claimed the fellow rapper purposely got into random fights with celebrities to get people’s attention and then dropped shots right after.

Montana’s comments about 50 Cent come after he narrowly escaped a shooting that injured up to 10 people on January 5.

In a recent appearance at My Expert Opinion with Matt Hoffa, the “Unforgettable” singer recalled believing that 50 Cent was “At one point … the biggest genius in the music industry.” He noted that the star, whose birth name was Curtis Jackson III, would randomly get into a fight with someone popular before releasing music.

Montana said per Insider, “He’ll just pick you and drop a mixtape. Pick you and drop an album.” He credits him for inspiring other artists to market their songs in the same way. The rapper stated, “He kind of invented that marketing scheme for a lot of artists to use.”

While people “did it before him,” the hip-hop icon became a “mastermind” and “warlord” using the feud to promote upcoming projects. Montana, who praised the star in the interview, also fell out with him following comments he made about the car he bought.

The two artists once had a serious relationship with each other following 50 Cent’s comments about the “Keep It Real” rapper’s Bugatti, which was an old model. However, they have decided as Montana called a truce after 50 Cent produced and sang the theme song for the 2021 crime series “Blowing Money Fast (BMF).”

In response to whether they are still fighting, the star said on the December 2021 episode Drink Champs, “Man, let me tell you something. Me, I have no problem with another 50 after he drops this BMF joint.” He later expressed how much he loved the theme song and praised the star. “That’s my favorite piece of crap … shout out to 50.”

He added, “Yes, me and him, it’s all over after BMF. That was the best job ever.” 50 Cent accepted his offer to put their feud behind them in an Instagram post. In response to Montana’s comments, he wrote, “That’s the right answer, France, well handled. What kind of beef, I don’t remember.”

On January 5, about ten people were reportedly shot dead at a Miami restaurant where Montana was having lunch with friends. The star, who was there with his crew to celebrate his new album “Coke Boys 6,” luckily avoided the incident. However, a bodyguard and rapper, Rob49, was injured in the shooting, per CBS.

Montana, thankful to be alive, took to Twitter to explain what happened the next day. He write“We were, unfortunately, in the wrong place, at the wrong time when an incident occurred that injured people.”

The rapper also expressed how sorry he felt for the victim of the attack. He said, “Our thoughts & prayers are [with] victims and families at this time.” While witnesses immediately took Rob49 to the hospital, the authorities confirmed that there was no death.

follow CBS, following the incident, Delma Noel-Pratt of the Miami Gardens Police stated that she “believes it was an isolated incident.” The officer also confirmed that no one died in the exchange of fire and some victims are still being treated.

Recalling what happened during the incident, Noel-Pratt noted that “a crowd gathered outside the restaurant” when the shooting occurred. However, no one has been able to provide full details of what happened. The restaurant strictly prohibits the bringing of guns, as a sign on their door reads, “No firearms or weapons allowed on this property.”
