A convicted murderer on the run after being released from a Pennsylvania prison has been trying to contact a former co-worker while his sister is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), police said.
Danelo Cavalcante, who is serving a life sentence for killing his ex-girlfriend in front of her children, remains free after being released from the Chester County Jail on August 31.
The fugitive was recently spotted Saturday night trying to meet with two former co-workers who live in East Pikeland Township and Phoenixville, said Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens to reporters Sunday.
While Cavalcante eluded police, Bivens said his sister, Eleni Cavalcante, was arrested by ICE and may be deported on “some immigration issues.”

Bivens did not say where Eleni, like her brother, is an illegal immigrant from Brazil, or if she has been in contact with Cavalcante, who appears to be desperate for allies.
The convicted killer was caught on a Ring camera in East Pikeland Township on Saturday, just before 10 p.m., hanging around the home of a man he worked with years ago, police said.
The former co-worker, who was out to dinner with his family, saw Cavalcante while checking his doorbell video, called police and told them the fugitive had asked to see him.

Cavalcante then went to Phoenixville, where police said he tried to contact another former co-worker who was also not at home.
Another doorbell camera reveals Cavalcante is now clean-shaven, in favor of the bushy beard and mustache he sports behind bars.
He was also seen wearing a black baseball-style cap, a yellow or green hooded sweatshirt, green prison pants and white shoes.
The weekend sighting came as police believe Cavalcante was in possession of a stolen van, a white Ford Transit, which was found behind a shed in East Nantmeal, about 15 miles west of Phoenixville.

“I have no report of a stolen vehicle; I expect we will,” Bivens told reporters, believing the escapees ditched the van when it ran out of gas.
The official reiterated that it was only a matter of time until Cavalcante was caught, with at least 400 officers combing the Keystone State in what is now Day 12 of an escalating manhunt.
Cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison without parole last month for the fatal stabbing of 33-year-old Deborah Brandao, his ex-girlfriend, while her 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son were present in 2021.
He was awaiting transfer to a state facility when he escaped from the prison by scaling walls, scaling razor wire and jumping from roofs to less secure areas to avoid guards.
