Broadway star Lea Michele has mocked critics who claim she can’t read or write.
Rumors that the actress was illiterate first surfaced in 2018 before resurfacing in 2022 after she landed the lead role of Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival of “Funny Girl.” The “Glee” alum started her career earlier this month before taking a temporary hiatus due to COVID-19.
The actor mocked his critics in a hilarious TikTok video that emerged after he also addressed the allegations in an interview with New York Times. Fellow actress Jameela Jamil also weighed in with her support for the actress following the rumors that made headlines.

In her latest TikTok video, Michele refutes earlier claims that she can’t read or write. The 36-year-old actress shared a sound clip from an episode of the reality series “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and added a written graphic to her post that said, “Calling Jonathan to read me a comment on my first TikTok.”

The skit pokes fun at claims that the star is illiterate, with the speculation becoming a viral internet meme in March 2018 and again in 2022. The actor previously slammed the claims, but they seem to persist for some reason.
Michele’s TikTok video comes in the wake of her temporary withdrawal from the Broadway production of Funny Girl due to a COVID-19 diagnosis after kicking off her career in spectacular fashion earlier in the month.
The former “Glee” star landed the lead role of Fanny Brice in the Broadway production after “Booksmart” star Beanie Feldstein left the part months ago. She previously took a break from acting after she welcomed her son to businessman Zandy Reich.

In chat with New York Times earlier this month, Michele forcefully rebuked the ridiculous notion that she was illiterate. The actor explained that he thought the comments stemmed from misogyny.
“I go to Glee every day; I know my lines every day,” he told the publication. “And then there’s a rumor online that I can’t read or write? really sad It really is. I often think that if I were a man, many of these things would not have happened.

Michele also told New York Times, that he doesn’t let rumors and other criticisms get to him regardless of how far they have spread. She shared that she is focused on living her role as Fanny Brice and being a wife and mother.
Jameela Jamil Defends Broadway Stars
Amid the widespread rumours, another actor, Jamil, spoke out in support of Michele, saying it was “okay” to make jokes about someone’s reading or writing skills.
“I see a lot of people claiming certain actors can’t read… and then laughing at it. Whatever your issue is with someone, and I don’t know this woman, or anything about her, but laughing at the idea of *anyone* not being able to read makes YOU look like a prick,” he wrote. “An elitist, capable person. It’s embarrassing for you, not them.”

Jamil also pleaded with fans not to “let your bullet fragments that are meant for some people… hit those you didn’t target. Some people can’t read because of disabilities, learning disabilities; some can’t because of lack of access to education. Words and your actions affect them too.”

In her absence, Michele’s part was filled by her student Julie Benko. During the actor’s temporary setback, he revealed on Instagram that he has full faith in his protégé to perform the role.
The actor also shared that he will spend ten days in isolation and lamented that the spike in Covid-19 infections had badly affected the production of “Funny Girl”.

He wrote, per The explosion, “Unfortunately, I was officially confirmed positive for COVID. In keeping with the production protocol, I cannot return to the theater for 10 days.”
“Thankfully, staying home and catching this early protected so many members of our company from being exposed. Funny Girl has been and still is dealing with the massive wave of COVID with almost a dozen members of the company being out.” he wrote.
