Gabby Petito’s Family Is On A Mission To ‘Help Find The Missing’

Gabby Petito’s family is on a mission to help find any and all missing people.

Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt have reunited after their daughter’s murder.

Gabby’s biological parents helped get new legislation to President Biden’s desk.

The “Help Find the Missing Act,” supported by Petito and Schmidt, was passed by the Senate earlier this month and the House of Representatives last week.

According to reports, the law calls for information about missing persons to be entered into an internal FBI database called the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

The NCIC database will then transfer this information to a Department of Justice database called NamUs, aka, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

The information will be shared publicly so everyone can see who is missing providing potential help.

It’s Up To President Biden To Pass The Law

According to New York State law, law enforcement is currently required to provide details of missing persons into NamU, but only one of the 13 states is required to share this information.

New Jersey and Connecticut do not have any requirements regarding this matter.

Gabby’s father, Joseph, told investigative reporter Kristin Thorne, “Everyone deserves to be found and this is a way to make sure that happens.”

He continued, “Something needs to be done in the way we deal with missing people. This is just a step in the right direction.”

Gabby’s parents and stepparents learned about the law in February and began working tirelessly to get it.

“We’ve reached out to senators and their teams to make sure everyone is on board,” Joseph said.

The legislation would also provide $2 million in funding to NamU.

“It’s not just the left that’s lost or the right that’s lost,” he said “It’s everybody.”

In addition to passing legislation to help find missing persons, Gabby’s parents made sure that the Laundrie family’s attorney, Steven Bertolino, paid the price for allegedly helping the Laundromat cover up Gabby’s death.

On Tuesday, December 6, Gabby’s parents added Bertolino to their civil lawsuit against Brian Laundrie’s parents.

Joe and Nichole claimed that it was “insensitive, cold-hearted and outrageous” for Bertolino to express the Laundrie family’s “hope” that authorities would find Gabby’s body in September 2021.

Earlier this year, Gabby’s parents filed a lawsuit against Chris and Roberta claiming they knew their son killed Gabby and knew where her body was.

In a statement released earlier this month, Joe and Nichole said, “When they chose to speak, it was through statements issued by Steven Bertolino, including a statement on September 14, 2021 that it was the Laundrie family’s ‘hope’ that the search for Miss Petito succeeds and that Miss Petito is reunited with her family.’”

It continued, “It is believed that at the time of the September 14, 2021 statement, the Dobi and Steven Bertolino knew that Gabby Petito had died, and that under the circumstances, the statement was insensitive, cold-hearted and outrageous. “
