‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke Has No Intention Of Watching ‘House Of The Dragon’ For THIS Reason

While some have yet to start the wildly popular “Games of Thrones” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen in the first series, is actively avoiding watching it. The actress starred as the dragon princess for all eight seasons of the HBO show until she was killed off in the final season.

“House of the Dragon” is set 172 years before “Game of Thrones” and stars Milly Alcock as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen while Emma D’Arcy plays the adult version of the character. Since its release last year, the prequel has seen huge success and even won the Golden Globe award for best series.

Clarke, however, recently revealed that she has no intention of watching the new series. According to the actress, although she is very happy with the show, she feels like watching it will be “too weird” for her.

In a recent interview with Diversity at the Sundance Film Festival, Clarke revealed that she has yet to watch the prequel to her hit HBO series, “House of the Dragon.”

When asked if he had seen the prequel series, Clarke said, “No! can you [forgive me]? It’s too weird. I’m so glad it happened. I’m so excited about all the awards… I can’t do it. It’s very strange. It’s very strange. It’s like someone saying, ‘You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? Do you want to go to the school reunion?’ That’s what it feels like. I avoided.”

Clarke rose to fame after starring as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series. It was first released in 2011, and the actor went on to star in all eight seasons. He received four Emmy award nominations for his portrayal of the character as well as three Critics’ Choice Award nods.

Clarke isn’t the only “Game Of Thrones” star hesitant to watch “House of the Dragon.” In 2021, his co-star, Kit Harington, spoke to Associated Press, saying that watching the prequels can be painful. In a later interview with Insiderthe actor elaborated on it further, revealing that there was a lot of emotion associated with it.

Harington said, “I think to see people wearing clothes and clothes that resemble what we’ve been wearing for years, and it [has] the same music and style and tone, but not being in it will always feel — There will be something raw there.”

“Of course, I will watch it, and I will support Miguel [Sapochnik], who is leading the show,” continued the actor. “I wish them the best, but it’s very close to my heart, the story, which, of course, may have some pain there.”

‘House Of The Dragon’ Wins Golden Globe

At the 2023 Golden Globes awards show earlier this month, “House of the Dragon” took home the award for best drama series. It earned the win by beating out shows like “Ozark,” “The Crown,” “Better Call Saul” and “Severance.” Sapochnik, who directed three episodes of the show, accepted the award.

While on stage, he brought D’Arcy and Alcock up and asked the crowd to give “a round of applause for this great cast.” The director went on to thank HBO for trusting them with their “golden goose”.
