Career
Gautam started his career by working in an Indian pharmaceutical manufacturing company. After graduation, he also underwent an internship at the Economics Department of Lehman Brothers, UK. In 2006, he joined Kumpulan Dana and started working as Managing Director at Dana Plast Limited, and as Deputy Managing Director at Kumpulan Dana.

- In 2012, a flight, J9 992, operated by Dana Air, crashed into Iju-Ishaga, killing about 157 people on board. Gautam, who is the director of the airline, is concerned that all those affected by the incident get counseling and psychotherapy. In an interview, he talked about this and said,
Our chairman and other senior management have been on site to express their condolences to the families of the victims. We will continue to visit and assist them where necessary to ensure their needs are met until there is very stable.”
- In 2012, in an interview, he said that the flight would take off again even after the unfortunate incident of flight J9 992. He said,
We would not hesitate to fly them again because we always provide a full service and they are certified airworthy before they take to the air.”
