Gaza hospital refuses to evacuate patients despite deadline extension

The Israeli military extended the evacuation deadline for Gaza City’s main hospital by an extra four hours on Saturday as a ground offensive targeting Hamas terrorists loomed – but medical officials there refused to budge.

Palestine Red Crescent Society “cannot evacuate hospital,” the group said in a dissenting statement announcing its intention to ignore the new 9 a.m. ET deadline.

“Al Quds Hospital is offering life-saving services to a large number of Palestinian patients and wounded … in addition to the hundreds of civilians sheltering” there, the PRCS added.

The Red Crescent is a humanitarian aid organization that operates as part of the Red Cross.

On Friday, Israel ordered the mass evacuation of up to 1.1 million Palestinians from the northern Gaza Strip within 24 hours, an order the United Nations deemed “impossible.”

The Israel Defense Forces initially told hospital staff to evacuate its staff and patients by a deadline of 11 p.m. ET Friday, but extended the deadline twice as thousands of civilians thronged the area’s roads trying to escape the impending massacre. .

Israel has long accused Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007, of using the territory’s civilians as human shields.

The terror group denies the allegations – but has told its people not to leave.

The Israeli military has hit Gaza with more than 6,000 airstrikes in retaliation for the October 7 terror attack that killed more than 1,300 Israelis and took at least 120 civilian hostages – and has cut off electricity, water and food supplies.
