A gender reveal in Mexico turns deadly when a stunt plane involved in the celebration crashes in front of unsuspecting partygoers.
In the video posted to X (formerly Twitter) On Sunday, the happy, unidentified couple could be seen holding hands in front of a giant lighted sign reading “Oh Baby” while surrounded by friends and family.
The doomed Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee filled the San Pedro sky with pink smoke, while confetti was seen shooting out of cannons on the ground.
The plane’s left wing then appeared to give way as the pilot – later identified as Luis Ángel N., 32 – pulled the small plane up, causing it to spin out of control.
Meanwhile, on the field, the audience seemed completely unaware of the bittersweet happening in the sky.
According to a local newspaper, authorities found the pilot lying in the wreckage after a concerned partygoer called for help on Saturday.
Paramedics took him to the hospital, where he died.

The tragic video has gone viral and reignited the debate over gender reveal.
“These gender reveal parties are getting out of hand when people die every year because of them,” slamming an X user.
“The way the camera pans back to the couple without a care in the world for the pilot is sad,” wrote one disgusted user.
“For a moment I thought all the screaming was because they saw the plane,” states a third. “But no, it looks and sounds like only the cameraman noticed (at least at first).”

Some X users also speculated as to what caused the plane to suffer such a spectacular fate.
“Look closely at the time of the sudden upward movement, it exactly coincided with the firing of the CO2 cannon on the ground,” argued one eagle-eyed user. “It seems to me that the plane was literally blown out of the sky.”
“It appears that structural fatigue caused the climb to barely pull enough g to cause such a thing,” pointed out second person, while third person said the pilot “too much emphasis on wings.”
This isn’t the first time gender reveal has gone horribly wrong.

In 2020, the festival sparked a deadly wildfire in California that burned 10,000 acres of land.
Another couple drew criticism when their “oh baby” sign sent pink smoke and confetti into the air as a few sparks nearly lit the surrounding trees on fire.
An Australian family set their car on fire in 2019 thanks to special tires designed to emit blue smoke to announce the gender of their baby.
The tragedy of the gender announcement led mommy blogger Jenna Karvunidis – widely credited with “inventing” this type of celebration – to apologize for sparking the movement.

“Who cares what gender the baby is?” Karvnidis wrote in a July 2019 Facebook post that went viral.
“Focusing on gender at birth leaves out so much of their potential and talent that has nothing to do with what’s between their legs.”
