George Floyd killer Derek Chauvin ‘seriously injured’ in prison stabbing, AG confirms

Derek Chauvin was seriously injured after a stabbing at a federal prison, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison confirmed Saturday.

“I am saddened to hear that Derek Chauvin was the target of violence,” Ellison said in a statement to The Washington Post. “He has been duly convicted of his crime and, like any imprisoned individual, he should be able to serve his sentence without fear of reprisal or violence.”

The disgraced cop, who is serving a 22.5-year sentence for the death of George Floyd in May 2020, should be able to serve his prison term “without fear of retaliation or violence,” Ellison added.

Chauvin was attacked around 12:30 pm at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson. The Bureau of Prisons has not identified the assailant.

Chauvin was later listed in “stable” condition and is expected to survive, sources told ABC News.

Prison workers performed “life-saving measures” before Chauvin was hospitalized, the federal agency said.

Chauvin’s attacker was also taken to hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
