George Lopez, an American comedian, has been punished online for making disparaging remarks about 26-year-old comic Ralph Barbosa. The 61-year-old was interviewed by Steve Trevino for an edition of OMG Hi! podcast that aired on February 6, 2023. The two discuss themes such as Latino humor, TikTok trends, Latino fathers and LGBT sons, among others.
Trevino references Ralph Barbosa and talks about helping people get recognized in the industry while praising Lopez’s legacy and self-made success. However, the inclusion of the young comedian’s name in the discourse did not sit well with George Lopez, who rejected Barbosa.
Trevino said,
“Ralph Barbosa, is this boy exploding now? And I feel as if I pray for him. I’m not insulting him. I want the youngster to have an easy time because of us [*] hard times.”
In response to this, George Lopez stated:
“[I’ve never heard of him]” I’m not sure who he is. What country is he from? But no one knows who the bastard is, so why do you mention him?”
He then asked others around him if it was inappropriate for him to say that and added:
“Why do you keep saying his name when no one knows who he is?”
He also asked someone off-camera if he was being hard on the 26-year-old comic.
George Lopez was chastised by fans for claiming that no one knew who Ralph Barbosa was.
When Steve Trevino, who seemed disturbed by Lopez’s statement, expressed a desire to be careful of others, Lopez stated that everyone must take care of themselves. Following the virality of George Lopez’s statement regarding Ralph Barbosa, Twitterati slammed the comic for making such a statement. Some people remind that Lopez should not forget how he built his own profession from the ground up. Others chastised him for failing to promote the up-and-coming Latino comedian and were disappointed by his statement.

Ralph Barbosa is a comedian known for his laid-back funny delivery.
On February 9, Ralph Barbosa responded to Lopez’s statement by posting the same video footage on his Instagram account.
He captioned the video with a laughing emoji:
“People kept giving me these early videos. It’s okay, baby, the future is here.”
Ralph Barbosa was born in Dallas, Texas in 1996. He is considered one of the “shyest attention hogs” and is known for his laid-back funny delivery. The rising comic won the 2019 Funniest Comic in Texas category as well as the 2021 New York Latino Film Festival Stand-Up competition.
She rose to fame recently after participating in HBO Max’s Entre Nos: The Winners 3. She also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and shared her first Instagram photo. George Lopez has yet to respond to the outrage over his statement as of this writing.
