Official Wrestling Gerrard Flores Obituary & Cause of Death

Gerrard Flores died on January 7 at noon while competing in a wrestling event at Arvada West High School. Flores had a medical problem during the game, and firefighters and police officers were also present. According to police Public Information Officer Dave Snelling, efforts to recover Flores were futile. Flores was taken to an ambulance but died on the way and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“One of the referees at the wrestling tournament got sick,” Snelling said. Arvada fire and police attended, and he was treated medically. He died despite all resuscitation efforts.

Following Flores’ death, the wrestling event was canceled. Flores is a popular figure in the Colorado wrestling scene. He is a former collegiate wrestler who earned a business administration degree from Northeastern Jr. College in 1988. Flores worked as a supervisor for Time Warner Cable in addition to being a wrestling referee.

In honor of Flores, Colorado Wrestling’s Facebook page published a link to a 9News piece about him. Flores not only officiated wrestling events, but also other sports. Flores has posted multiple photos of the Denver Broncos on Facebook. On his social media account, he will periodically provide a schedule of nearby wrestling events.

Tribute To Colorado Referees

Gerrard Flores, a Colorado native, has two sons, Trea and Tristin Flores. His two sons have not commented, but have posted nostalgic photos with their father. Tera Flores, a singer, tweeted a childhood photo of her sitting on her father’s lap. He added a broken heart emoji to the post’s description. Tristin Gerrard, Gerrard’s youngest son, posted a photo of himself with his father at Fenway Park.

There is a video showing Gerrard officiating a children’s baseball game. Malessa Hernandez, his sister, posted videos of her brother umpiring numerous baseball games. Malessa re-shared the video on her Facebook profile after a parent of one of the children posted it on her account. Mindy L. Albert, the person who uploaded the video, stated, “You touch so many of these young kids’ lives through sports and give kids so many opportunities to shine.”

The Chaparral Wrestling Club paid tribute to the great referee as well. The Wrestling Club posted a photo of Gerrard during a wrestling tournament with the caption, “If you’ve spent any time in youth wrestling, you know Gearrard.”
