Gijs van der Most is an American photographer and businessman. He is the husband of the popular stand-up comedian and actress Michelle Buteau.

Gijs van der Most was born in 1979 (age 44 years; as of 2023), and he hails from the Netherlands, Europe. From 2000 to 2005, he pursued a course in photographic design at Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (The Utrecht School for Arts), a performing arts and visual arts educational institution in Utrecht, Netherlands. After working in Amsterdam, Netherlands for many years, he relocated to New York, US. After marriage, he started living on City Island, in the Bronx.

Michelle and Gijs spent five years trying to conceive and even opted for IVF, but they did not succeed. Finally, in January 2019, the couple had twins via surrogacy, a boy and a girl, Hazel and Otis.

Since 2008, he has been working as a photographer. His work has been featured in several publications, including PEOPLE, Esquire, Men’s Health, and Fast Company. His documentary projects include Used Car Salesmen, Yard Sales, Sign Jugglers, and I ♥ Runyon Canyon. Gijs has co-created the blog “van der THIS!,” with his comedian wife Michelle Buteau, where he fused photography with comedy turning the content into an eye-catching and entertaining miniseries. He also works as a photo editor popular style, culture, and design blog www.kaufmann-mercantile.com. In 2012, he appeared on The Eric Andre Show. In January 2012, Gijs van der Most and Michelle established a furniture store in Bushwick, Brooklyn called Van Der Most Modern.
