After completing his schooling, he enrolled at Thakur College of Science and Commerce in Mumbai, where he earned a degree in business management. He has also obtained a degree in biotechnology. In an interview, Girija said that when she expressed her desire to pursue an acting career to her parents, her father told her that he would not recommend her to producers or ask them to cast her in their films. He said,
My father has made it clear to me that he will not recommend me to anyone and that I will have to find work on my own. He consciously didn’t help me because he wanted me to grow up on my own.”

Ads
Girija started appearing in commercials while she was studying. In an interview, she revealed that her interest in appearing in commercials grew stronger when she started watching television dramas with her family. He also mentioned that the catchy jingle from the ad played an important role in his decision. He spoke about it and said,
When I was a kid, I loved commercials. I remember when the TV was on and commercials were playing. Then someone turned off the TV. I turned off the TV and started crying. I cried as Lick Lick.”
At the age of twelve, she appeared in her first commercial, a Savlon commercial. She talked about her first commercial, in an interview, and said that her classmates used to tease her by calling her “Savlon girl.” He said,
I made my first commercial when I was 12 years old. I was teased at school for being a Savlon girl.”

After that, she received offers to appear in advertisements for various famous brands like Horlicks, Dabur Chayawanprash, Vim, and Nestle. According to her, she started getting the role of mother in the advertisement at a very young age.

Girija made her debut in the Marathi film industry with the 2004 film Juiley where she essayed the role of a character named Juiley Viswasrao Patil/ Kasturi.

In the same year, she shared the screen with popular Marathi actor Swapnil Joshi in the film Manini where she played the role of Shalimi. She acted alongside Sachin Pilgaonkar in the 2008 film Man Pakharu Pakharu. In 2009, she appeared in two Marathi films, Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi, and Gulmohar. In 2011, she won the role of Anuja in the film Adgula Madgula. Girija essayed the role of Revati Deshmukh in The Journey To Her Smile in 2014. For playing the role of Sudha in the film Qala 2022, Girija received appreciation from her fans and film critics; the film premiered on Netflix and received various awards such as Zee Cine Award, Hungama Bollywood Style Icon Award and FOI Online Award. In 2023, she shared the screen with popular actor Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan; she appears as a character named Ishkra. She spoke about her experience working with Shah Rukh, in an interview, and said,
I shot the film Jawan for two years. It was a very thrilling experience. Shahrukh will come to the sets fully prepared. Apologies to the other cast members if the retakes were caused by him. What we hear about him, he is a very good person, he behaves very politely. All these things are true.”
In September 2023, he was seen in another Hindi film The Vaccine War, directed by the famous director Vivek Agnihotri.
