Girl, 16, stabbed to death during fight over sweet and sour sauce outside DC McDonald’s

A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death outside a Washington, DC-area McDonald’s in an apparent dispute over sweet and sour sauce over the weekend.

Naima Liggon, of Waldorf, Maryland, was allegedly killed by another 16-year-old girl outside a fast-food chain in a popular nightlife section of the city at about 2 a.m., the Metropolitan police said.

The fatal knife attack stemmed from an argument over nugget dipping sauce between the teenager and a third girl, Detective Brendan Jasper testified in court Monday, according to the Washington Post.

A verbal dispute turned physical when Liggon and a third girl beat the teenage suspect, who initially did not fight back, outside a restaurant near U Street NW, Jasper told the court, citing security footage.

The 16-year-old instead “lashed out” at Liggon and the third teenager as they tried to get into the vehicle, the detective testified.

The suspect allegedly stabbed Liggon in the chest and abdomen with a 7-and-a-half-inch pocket knife, he said. The girl was rushed to the hospital by private means but could not be saved.

Liggon died a day before he was to resume classes at Thomas Stone High School after summer break.

The 16-year-old suspect — whose name has not been released because of his age — was arrested Sunday and will also miss class because he was ordered held without bail until his next court date, the Washington Post reported.

The girl, also from Waldorf, was charged with second-degree armed murder and pleaded not guilty — the juvenile version of innocence — during Monday’s hearing.

“At the end of the day, someone died over a dispute over sauce,” said D.C. Superior Court Judge Sherri Beatty-Arthur as she announced that the child would remain in custody until her next hearing on Friday.

He was found to be in possession of a knife when police handcuffed him, the Metropolitan police said.

“He was the only person who brought a knife to the fight,” prosecutor Priscilla Guerrero said, according to the newspaper.

The teenager’s defense attorney claimed he acted in self-defense.

D.C. officials have imposed curfews for children 16 and younger in several parts of D.C., including the U Street area, beginning Friday.

The curfew, which starts at 11pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends, is part of efforts to curb juvenile violence in the district.

Liggon is the 13th person under the age of 18 to be killed in Washington this year — often at the hands of other minors, according to the Washington Post.

A neighbor whose son was friends with Liggon described the teenager as “a beautiful person” in an interview with Washington DC’s Fox5.

“He was the first friend [my son] met when he got here,” Rickey Graves told the local station.

“It’s just – it surprised us because she’s a beautiful person. He has a great personality, always laughing – a lot of laughing. His mother – a very friendly, beautiful person. So, I’m just shocked that something like this would happen to him.”
