Tom Brady made headlines a few weeks ago before the NFL season officially began when he took an unexpected 11-day break from training camp in August for “personal reasons,” according to Tampa Bay Bucs head coach Todd Bowles. Reports later began to speculate that the couple was having marital problems and were taking some time off, blaming Brady’s decision to come out of retirement and return to the NFL.
After Brady returned to training camp, he talked about his absence from the team, saying “Everybody has different situations that they face, and we all have unique challenges in our lives. I’m 45 years old, man.”

Ahead of Brady’s 11-day absence, Gisele Bündchen spoke to ELLE about her marriage and Brady’s decision to come out of retirement.
“Obviously, I have my concerns—this is a very violent sport, and I have my kids and I’d like him to be more present,” she told ELLE. “I must have talked to him many times. But in the end, I think everyone has to make the right decision [them]. He needs to follow his joy too.”

Bündchen went on to say, “I’ve done my part, that is [to] be there for [Tom]. I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and be there to support them and their dreams. Seeing my children succeed and become the beautiful little human beings that they are, seeing her succeed, and be satisfied in her career—it makes me happy. At this point in my life, I think I’ve done a good job of that.”
When it comes to the future, Bündchen will focus on her personal goals and dreams as well. “I have a huge list of things I need to do, that I want to do,” she told ELLE. “At 42, I feel more connected to my purpose.”

Although Brady has not announced whether he will retire from football after this season, indications are that it is a very high possibility. “I haven’t had Christmas in 23 years and I haven’t had Thanksgiving in 23 years,” Brady told Yahoo. “I don’t celebrate birthdays with my loved ones, you know, born from August to the end of January. And you know, I can’t attend funerals and I can’t attend weddings.”
Brady continued, “I think there comes a point in your life where you say, ‘You know what? I’ve had enough and I’ve had enough and it’s time to move on, to move on to another part of life.’ I push myself to the maximum and I get everything I can out of my abilities.”
