He got the beat!
Former Go-Go vocalist Belinda Carlisle is perhaps best known for the viral pop hits she released as a member of ’80s girl groups and as a solo star. As a member of The Go-Go’s, Carlisle contributed lead vocals to the group’s hits “We Got The Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed,” and would go on to great success after starting out on his own! Carlisle would go on to release memorable ’80s hits “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” and “Mad About You,” (featured on the soundtrack to “13 Going On 30”) after the band broke up in mid-year eight. dozens
Carlisle, 64, will add to his pop collection once again!
Given Carlisle’s contribution to pop music history, it’s probably no surprise to hear the Go-Go frontman is releasing new music. However, the “Holiday” singer’s next trip to the recording studio was quite notable!
Read on to find out why Carlisle’s next project will be a monumental career moment.
Carlisle Finds Himself Behind the Microphone and Reflects on His Career
Carlisle is still reaching new territory four decades on since The Go-Go’s first brought their brand of California cool to the airwaves!
2022 may be the year Carlisle returns to the recording studio, but it’s also the year he finds himself behind the microphone for a different reason as well; Carlisle started his own Sirius XM radio show earlier this summer!
“It’s an accident because I never thought I’d want to do something like this,” he told American Songwriters after August’s “Mad About Music With Belinda Carlisle” premiere. “I’ve recorded nine shows so far and it seems like a lot of my choices are songs that really influenced me from the late 70s, like Roxy Music and early. [David] Bowie. Music has been my life since I was 17, so it kind of tells a story, and I share a part of myself,” added Carlisle.
The last two years have been notable in Carlisle’s music story: The Go-G0’s will release new music, be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2021, and the band will go on tour.
The group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an honor that Carlisle considers very important to The Go-Go’s legacy. He continued to American Songwriter, “The Go-Go’s are definitely winding down now, and I think that definitely cements the band’s legacy. We all have our lives and different things, so I don’t know if we’ll ever really do anything else, but if it ends there, that’s amazing. There’s something to be said about coming out on top.”
The Lid On Carlisle’s Pop Career Is No Longer Sealed!
Carlisle is still in the prime of his solo career and isn’t slowing down anytime soon!
In between spinning his favorite glam rock classics, Carlisle has found time to return to his musical roots. She’s gearing up to release her first pop music album in nearly three decades!
The former pop princess is known to experiment and release some unique material; Carlisle released an album dedicated to Sikh chants as well as an album recorded entirely in French! His upcoming foray back into pop music can be considered a stroke of luck; he revealed to Retro Pop Magazine that his son’s chance meeting with songwriting giant Diane Warren, was the catalyst for his next project!
“It’s very strange because I’m going to retire. Just working occasionally and living a good life,” he said. “Then my son came across [songwriter] Diane Warren at Starbucks, and she said, ‘What does your mom do? He said ‘I don’t know,’ and he said ‘Oh, then let’s call him!’ He has the crudest language in the business and he says, ‘B***h, what are you doing? I have some songs for you!”
Carlisle felt hesitant about his big venture but finally felt drawn to take the risk!
“I was like, ‘Do I really want to do this?’ Because it’s a big commitment when you do something like that. But I went to the studio and I don’t know what to say- It was really good. There’s about three songs on the EP and it’s amazing,” Carlisle continued.
Get ready for Belinda Carlisle’s big comeback! The first single from the said EP, “Big Big Love,” will be available in February.
