Devotees from various places gather to participate in Nagar Kirtan and pay homage to Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Singers are invited to these places and they sing hymns for Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Langar arrangements are made at Sikh holy places, where everyone is asked to eat a full meal. Volunteers organize this langar. In Gurudwaras, people sit together in rows to enjoy langar.
The volunteers prepare the langar with devotion and also participate in other services such as cleaning the floor, washing utensils, etc.
The real concept behind this langar on this auspicious day is that everyone irrespective of their creed, caste, religion and gender is free to eat together without any communal, social and political restrictions. After the evening recitation of Rehires Sahib and Ardaas, the diwan kirtan continues till late at night.
All in all, Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated on a grand scale in big cities and even in small villages. The Sikh community waits for this festival throughout the year.
