Gwen Stefani Admits To Struggling With Dyslexia Her Entire Life

Singer Gwen Stefani revealed that she struggled with dyslexia her entire life, and songwriting helped her discover her creativity. In addition to his co-founding role in No Doubt, the artist is the group’s lead singer and songwriter.

Stefani once revealed that she wrote the band’s first record with no experience or prior knowledge of songwriting. Years later, he said that his writing was essential to discovering his creativity.

The artist has previously said he suffers from dyslexia, and although he has suffered throughout his life, he was not aware of its presence until he had three sons.

Stefani spoke at the 52nd Annual New York Women in Communications Matrix Awards on Wednesday night after receiving a career achievement award. The artist revealed that he has dealt with dyslexia throughout his life and that his involvement in songwriting helped unlock his creativity.

This disorder is characterized by increased difficulty in learning. Dyslexia mainly manifests itself in reading, writing and spelling problems. According to Stefani, she was unaware of her condition until she gave birth to her two sons.

“Being dyslexic has definitely had challenges for me in my life, and I would say the advantages of dyslexia probably made me who I am.” Stefani continues per Daily Mail“When I wrote my first song – I didn’t know that I could do it. It just happened – it unlocked something in me.”

In late 2020, Stefani spoke about the influence her music has had on her learning disability and how her son copes with it. She joined Zane Lowe’s “At Home With” conversation series on Apple Music and revealed that she was made aware of her condition after her children had reading problems.

The artist has three children, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo, with her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale. The former couple married in 2002 after meeting each other in 1995, and in 2015, Stefani filed for divorce from Rossdale.

Stefani says, “One thing I’ve found through having kids is that I have dyslexia — everyone has things going on, and I do too.”

The fashion designer went on to say that although she didn’t know it at the time, she was certain that some of the issues she faced in the past stemmed from her undiagnosed dyslexia.

“I feel like a lot of the problems I’ve had or the decisions I’ve made for myself stem from that because now kids — obviously, it’s all genetic — they have some of those problems,” Stefani continued per Many people.

Although she had a difficult time, the artist said that her children got the necessary support from their school and teachers. “Now they get all these benefits,” he said.

“They have these amazing teachers and schools, and they shouldn’t be ashamed of it. They understand that their brains work in different ways. All our brains do, you know what I mean?” said the mother of three.

When talking about her experience with a learning disability, Stefani admitted that she “failed at school.” The artist describes herself as a “good girl” and revealed that she never really involved herself in illicit activities while at school.

He explained, “It’s really hard for me to function in the square box of a school that everybody’s supposed to understand. And my brain didn’t work that way; it still doesn’t. But it works in a different way that’s probably a gift that other people don’t. .”

Stefani revealed that dyslexia also affected her life outside of school, especially as a new artist and part of No Doubt. He explained that he wrote the entire record without any prior knowledge of how to write songs.

The artist said he had little confidence in himself at the time, but when he wrote a song or went on stage, he felt calm. “When I’m going to write a song, or I’m going to go on stage, it feels so right and the only thing that feels right to me,” Stefani said.
