Hailey Bieber recalls the scary moment in her life when she was hospitalized with stroke-like symptoms in April 2022.
He revealed at the time that he had suffered a transient ischemic attack caused by a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), prompting him to undergo surgery to remove the heart defect.
Now, he commemorates that period with full gratitude to health professionals for being healthy and energetic a year after the surgery.

Hailey, who is married to pop icon Justin Bieber recently took to her Instagram Story to mark one year since the procedure successfully closed the hole in her heart.

He used a throwback photo of himself lying in a hospital bed and smiling slightly at the camera. Several machines were connected to him as he lay in a hospital gown, and some were covered with white sheets.
The supermodel wrote across the image: “This time last year I had a procedure to close a hole I have in my heart known as a PFO (Patent Foramen Ovale) following a temporary stroke.”
She continued “So grateful to have found this and shut it down. And so grateful to my amazing doctor. A year later, I feel strong and healthy.” Hailey concluded with a note urging her followers to click the attached link to read and learn more about PFO and PFO closure.”
The Hollywood celebrity has been quite open about her experience with PFO, even recounting her mental health ordeal after suffering a mini-stroke.
As The Blast reported, during an appearance on the “Run-Through with Vogue” podcast episode, she mentioned how scared she was after the diagnosis because she believed the stroke would happen again. “I struggled with a lot of anxiety after that,” shared Hailey. “I struggle with a little bit of PTSD like, the fear that it might happen again.”
He later recalled how terrifying the incident was, saying, “It was very scary, very jarring … in every way you can imagine.” According to the media personality, the stroke was “the scariest thing she’s ever experienced,” after which she discovered a hole in her heart, making things worse.

After the discovery, her anxiety level increased, adding that she had initial health problems in Palm Springs last March before she was finally diagnosed with heart disease.
After undergoing surgery the following month for the condition, Hailey revealed that she found it difficult to return to Palm Springs for a while, as it made her remember “exactly how everything was back then.”
However, despite being terrified, he was thankful he found the hole before it caused any serious medical problems. In his words, “I think the good side for me is that it led me to know that I had this hole in my heart.”
Thankfully, the 26-year-old was able to bounce back in no time, and his anxiety, PTSD, and health preoccupation levels have all subsided.
He also felt lucky to be alive after knowing his condition could have worsened. He recounted, “I looked back, and it could have been worse. So many worse things could have happened in that time.”

Hailey’s moving reflection on her health comes after she went public with her challenges earlier in the year amid her high-profile feud with fellow celebrity Selena Gomez.

According to reports, she continued her Insta Story with an emotional message that began, “I like to make jokes about how I feel because sometimes it’s easier than admitting I’m having a hard time.” The socialite later wrote that since the year began, she’s had “some of the saddest, hardest moments” she’s ever experienced as an adult, leaving her “mind and emotions” “fragile.”
At the end of the message, she told those with similar experiences that they are not alone before adding a second post advising her fans to be there for each other. In his words, “Let’s be there for people.. let’s keep showing up for each other even when things are tough. We are better together.”
