Haley pulls dead even with DeSantis — but Trump still crushes the GOP presidential field: poll

Former US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are dead even for second place in the 2024 Republican primary, a recent national poll found.

DeSantis, 45, and Haley, 51, each got 8%, while former President Donald Trump dominated all his GOP peers with 59% support, according to an Emerson College poll.

All other candidates are hovering in the low single digits with former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Vice President Mike Pence and multi-billionaire entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy each garnering 3% support.

Ten percent of voters are undecided.

Haley’s performance marked a roughly five-point bounce from a similar Emerson College poll last month, ending the upward polling trajectory she’s been on since the first GOP debate in August.

He still trails DeSantis in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate, averaging 7.4% nationally, while DeSantis has 12.8% and Trump, 77, has 59.1%.

The former South Carolina governor recently won the endorsement of the Palmetto State Post and Courier newspaper.

Haley and DeSantis have been at loggerheads lately over whether the US should accept refugees from Gaza.

The candidates and their respective allies have also struggled behind the scenes to lock in donors.

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has been kicking back and watching from the sidelines in amusement — with one Trump adviser describing it as “The Biggest Loser Fight with Nikki” to The Post.

Campaign spokesman Steven Cheung has also taken several jabs at the two in social media posts.

In addition to Trump leading his primary rival, the Emerson College poll pegged him with a 47% to 45% advantage over President Biden.

“Of those who say they think Biden is responsible for the economy, 58% say they are worse off financially than last year with 23% saying they are better off,” explained Matt Taglia, Senior Director of Emerson College Polling.

“Of those who hold Trump responsible for the current economy, 39% report better off financially, while 27% say they are worse off.”

Trump also maintains a slim 0.6 percentage point lead over Biden in the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate of national polls.

The Emerson poll was conducted from October 16-17 among 1,578 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
