Two months after severing ties with her old label, Capitol Music Group, Halsey, who goes by her first name, will make music under a new record label.
The hitmaker worked with his former partner for about eight years, and towards the end of their partnership, they fell out over his music.
That’s one of the many reasons Halsey decided to break away, and now, she’s signed with Columbia Records, marking the start of a promising new era.
Halsey Signs New Record Deal With Columbia Records
Halsey has some good news for her fans just in time for the summer and months after she and Capitol Records parted ways. On Wednesday, June 14, Variety confirmed his new deal with Columbia Records, the label behind one of the two major hits of his career — “Closer.”

Fans may be aware that the 28-year-old was featured on the song as lead vocalist with The Chainsmokers, and it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for about 12 weeks in 2016.
His other breakthrough hit, “Without Me,” reached No. 1 in 2018— five years after he signed to Capitol’s Astralwerks imprint in 2013, wasting no time becoming the label’s “hottest act.” However, that did not stop their relationship from becoming strained.
Amid the partnership, Halsey once claimed that one of the company’s executives said she wasn’t ready to make an album. To prove them wrong, he asked his followers on Twitter if they wanted an album, and unsurprisingly he got the response he needed.
Later in 2022, the “Badlands” creator opened another issue with Capitol Records about requests for TikTok content. Although the dispute reportedly ended amicably, Halsey’s team is already working toward a way out of the partnership. His last song released through the company was “Die 4 Me,” released in February, and was a solo version of a duet featuring Post Malone.
Additionally, the “Eastside” singer created four albums under the label, and all of them have reached either the top or second spot on the Billboard 200. The first three, “Badlands,” “Hopeless Fountain Kingdom,” and “Manic,” were all certified double platinum.
On the other hand, his last album, “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power,” released in August 2021, did not produce the same commercial results, but became a favorite of fans and critics. Earlier in April, Halsey announced the end of her partnership with Capitol Records using a statement through her managers, Jason Aron and Anthony Li.
Per The Blast, the release reads, “After eight great years, the decision to leave Capitol is bittersweet, but we’re excited to explore new partnerships and share new music with fans.”
A representative from the company also confirmed the split through a statement showing how much effort was put into enabling Halsey to “achieve their dreams and present their music to the world.” The post also highlighted their appreciation for everything they’ve accomplished over the years as it read, “We are so proud of everything we’ve accomplished together, and wish Halsey the best in all of their future endeavors.”
The ‘Colors’ Vocalist Team Is Concerned With Same-Sex Expression In The Song ‘Bad At Love
In the spirit of Pride Month, Halsey held a private performance at London’s Hard Rock Cafe on Old Park Lane, where she opened up about her team’s concerns over her bisexual expression in “Bad at Love.”
According to reports, he mentioned hesitating about wanting the hit to be a single because he knew whatever he released after “Closer” was necessary for how he was perceived as an artist. Although the “Without Me” singer sees the song as “fun” and “really honest,” her team is worried that the lyrics in the second half of the song that reference a similar romance will not be well received.
He shared, “There was concern about the lyrics, and mostly everyone was very supportive, but the conversation came up a little bit, like, ‘I don’t know if they’re going to play this in middle America.’

Halsey was nervous about releasing the single as well, but much to her surprise, it did well, peaking at number five on the Billboard Charts.
After the release of the song, she insisted that no one cared about her sexuality, and that the song gave her the confidence, to be honest in all her music, “to say whatever I want.”
