Halsey Is Thankful To THIS Singer For The Biggest Song Of Her Career, ‘Without Me’

“Nightmare” singer Halsey recently credited songwriter Alanis Morissette for teaching her how to write an amazing “f*ck you” song. The artist was in a relationship with Turkish American director Alev Aydin and welcomed a son last year.

Before her current relationship, Halsey was famously linked to “Good Life” rapper G-Eazy. The duo was spotted together several times and dated for about a year before calling it quits in July 2018. He released “Without Me” after the breakup and several other “f*ck you” songs.

During the ninth annual “We Can Survive” concert on Saturday, Halsey credited Morissette with helping her perfect her songwriting skills. The duo collaborated on a track in 2020 and performed together in Saturday’s concert.

On Saturday night per Page Six, Halsey joined the list of performers at the Hollywood Bowl held in honor of the “We Can Survive” concert, which took place in Los Angeles. During his set, he thanked Morissette for helping him hone his talent for a certain type of songwriting.

“[She taught me] all my life how to write the best ‘f*ck you’ song of all time,” he said. “I think without his ‘f*ck you’ song, I probably wouldn’t have written the biggest song of my career so far.” The artist performed “Without Me” for the crowd and called it “very Alanis-esque.”

The hit song was released in 2018, shortly after the artist and her then-boyfriend, G-Eazy, broke up. “Without Me” has lyrics like “You know I’m the one who put you there / Name in the sky / Does it ever get lonely?”

Halsey and G-Eazy had a highly publicized breakup shortly after rumors surfaced that the rapper had cheated on her. The “Graveyard” singer made the announcement via her Instagram, where she asked her fans for privacy while they work through their issues.

In “Manic,” Halsey’s 2020 album, the artist featured Morissette in “Alanis Interlude.” The song symbolizes professional and sexual empowerment. During Morissette’s headlining set on Saturday, the two performed the track. Other songs in the set included “You Learn,” “You Oughta Know,” Ironic,” “Hand in My Pocket,” and “Thank U.”

The “We Can Survive” concert was hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and Audacy. The show aims to bring people together by using music to strengthen their mental health and spread suicide prevention awareness. Other artists on the night included Tate McRae, Garbage, One Republic and Weezer.

Some performing artists like Rivers Cuomo and Shirley Manson revealed that the concert was for a cause that affected some people, which was one of the reasons they decided to join the lineup.

Manson spoke to Page Six and explained that topics like this are common with his band, Garbage, and have written songs in the past. “I think it’s one of the reasons why we’ve enjoyed such a long career,” he said. “I think it makes a really deep connection with the fan base and the culture, in a funny way. And it’s a privilege, honestly, to speak for those who don’t get the kind of platform that we have.”

Over the past few years, Halsey has spoken on social media and in interviews about her struggles with her mental health. In an Instagram post last month, the mother-of-one admitted that she has “deep sadness” and, often, questions the choices she makes.

“I find that there’s often a deep sadness inside of me that can’t be touched by worldly pleasures, loneliness, emptiness,” the “Bad at Love” singer explained. Page Six.
