On April 21, special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis officially dismissed the criminal charges facing Alec Baldwin for the October 2021 shooting of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Baldwin faces two counts of involuntary manslaughter. These are the same charges facing “Rust” shield Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, although her initial hearing has been postponed until August.
Although the charges were dropped, the special prosecutor explained that they are dismissing the charges without prejudice, and may refile criminal charges as they continue their investigation.

In February 2022, a few months after Halyna’s death, her husband, Matthew Hutchins, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and other “Rust” producers. The lawsuit was settled in October 2022. As part of the settlement, Matthew will serve as an executive producer for the film.
