Hamas captives spill secrets about operating from hospitals: ‘We became their human shields’

A Hamas operative captured by Israel admitted under interrogation that the bloodthirsty terrorist group callously used hospitals and innocent civilians as human shields when launching attacks against Israeli forces.

The Israel Defense Forces released a video showing several Hamas terrorists captured by Israel spilling the beans about how the group hid weapons under mattresses and posed as doctors and nurses to avoid capture.

A senior IDF official said on Telegram that the terrorist was interrogated in Israel after being captured during a ground operation on Nov. 12.

One of the captives, who identified himself as Abdelrahaman Alaa Ibrahim Samur, told investigators off-camera that “about a hundred” Hamas operatives “occupied” Rantisi Hospital in Gaza for about five days to “[carry] out attack.”

“They are organized, with several tents, with each cooperative group of its own [in groups of] 4-5 of them were sitting together, all around the hospital,” said the arrested terrorist.

He also admitted the terrorists “operated from the hospital… because it was a safe place, and no one could trace them there.”

“No one will suspect them,” added Samur. “It’s better than operating from their home.”

They used the hospital “as a base of operations,” he said, before launching missions outside.

Another captured Hamas fighter said he was inside al-Shifa hospital, Gaza’s largest hospital complex, where he estimated some 50,000 people were seeking shelter.

“Doctors are angry because operatives of Hamas and operatives of other terrorist organizations are in the hospital,” he told investigators.

The unnamed Hamas fighter said there were about 100 terrorists in the hospital, including members of Islamic Jihad, Hamas’s second-largest militant group.

“They are [Hamas operatives] dressed as nursing staff but they are not nurses or doctors,” he said. “Hamas officers dress up as medical personnel to blend into hospital wards, even in the ICU!”

The third man, who said his name was Hamuda Riad Asad Shamalah, told interviewers he had been hiding in a Red Crescent compound in Gaza with his family for “about three weeks.”

He estimates about 40,000 people are in the complex, with about half in the main building where he is with his wife and three daughters.

He claimed that Hamas fighters continued to operate when they stayed in the compound.

Hamas members hide rockets and firearms by wrapping them in mattresses “every day,” Shamalah said, adding that terrorists use fear tactics to carry out their activities with impunity.

“No one can tell them no. Who can do that?” he said. “If you dare to face a Hamas member, he might kill you.”

Hamas chose the Red Crescent as its base of operations because “the large number of people there serves as a refuge for them,” the man revealed

“We are their human shield. It is clear that the IDF will not attack a place with 40,000 people in it,” he added.

In one segment, captured fighters apparently disagreed with the gruesome tactics used by Hamas members.

“If they want to fight, use a battlefield, it doesn’t matter if they use a shelter with so many people in it,” he said. “If one of their rockets, for example, were to explode, it could kill 50 of us, or more.”

He described the Red Crescent building and al-Shifa hospital as “the only place they can use to hide.”

Although the video interview and accompanying captions could not be independently verified by The Post, the shocking admission supports longstanding Israeli claims that the terrorist organization uses hospitals to hide their activities and conduct operations.

Israel has faced more intense criticism in recent weeks, including from allies, as the Israeli army conducts a military campaign in and around al-Shifa and other Gaza hospitals, which it has repeatedly claimed is being carried out to crack down on Hamas operatives using them to protection.
