Hamas planned devastating terror attacks on Israel for two years while pretending to rule Gaza – but was “surprised” to kidnap and slaughter so many, according to an exiled leader.
Ali Barakeh, an exiled member of the terrorist group’s leadership in Lebanon, said key members deliberately project a “rational” image to the world to hide their evil intentions.
“We make them think that Hamas is busy with governing Gaza, and it wants to focus on the 2.5 million Palestinians. [in Gaza]and has abandoned resistance altogether,” Barakeh told Russia Today TV.
“Meanwhile, under the table, Hamas is preparing for this massive attack.”
To help keep it from Israeli intelligence, only “a limited number of Hamas leaders who know about it” will come, Barakeh told the pro-Kremlin outlet.
“Zero hour is completely secret,” he said.
“The number of people who knew about the attack and its timing can be counted on one hand.”

“We are shocked by this massive collapse,” Barakeh told the Associated Press separately.
“We plan to make some profit and take prisoners to exchange them. This army is a paper tiger.”

In fact, an anonymous diplomatic source told Middle East news channel Al-Monitor that the plan was dramatically more modest.
“They hope to kill some Israelis, shame the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] and returned to Gaza with two or three kidnapped Israelis,” the source said.
