“Why does it have to be a snake?” actor Harrison Ford asked during Lucasfilm’s presentation of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” on Wednesday at the annual CinemaCon event.
The latest film featuring the whip-wielding archaeologist is the fifth in the franchise, following 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” 1984’s “Temple of Doom,” 1989’s “Last Crusade” and 2008’s “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theater Owners, is taking place inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from April 24th to April 27th. On Wednesday, Lucasfilm debuted a new action sequence from “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 80-year-old actor actually started the show with a pre-recorded message. “Hello, CinemaCon,” the “Star Wars” alum began, adding that “playing Indiana Jones all these years meant the world to me.” He then went on to explain various details that went into the film, including the snake.

“Why does it have to be a snake?” Ford asked, repeating his iconic line from “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Ford also thanked theater owners for their support and shared how the entire team working on the James Mangold-directed film is “excited” to debut the new film on the “biggest and best screen.”
Disney’s head of theatrical distribution, Tony Chambers, added, “We reach up to 11 people with a high-stakes adventure.” He also praised Mangold’s “amazing work” as director, calling the new film a “must-see, big-screen event.”

The new action scene only lasted a few minutes, but it gave fans of the decades-old franchise a taste of what’s to come. The thrilling chase scene features Indiana Jones behind the wheel of a mini motorized car as he is chased through narrow streets. Her and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s characters are both trying to avoid the “bad guys,” who are hot on their trail.
Waller-Bridge really gave it his all in this sequence as the Ford swerved and dodged various obstacles. He punches bad guys, jumps cars, and can even be seen hanging out of car windows, while he argues with Indiana Jones about the titular “dial of destiny.”
This isn’t the only time new footage of the film has been released ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France. At the Star Wars Celebration event held earlier this month in London, audiences were treated to a new trailer and got the chance to watch six minutes of the film.
‘Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny’ De-Ages Harrison Ford For A 25-Minute Sequence
MEGAIn a new interview with Total Film Magazine, director James Mangold revealed that the scene containing an ageless Harrison Ford was about 25 minutes. Mangold said that despite his advanced age, Ford was “very talented and agile” while filming the scene, which made it easy for him to “pretend to be 35.” However, Mangold also credits the new VFX technology created specifically for the film to remove Ford’s age.
“But the technology involved is another matter,” Mangold told the magazine. “We have hundreds of hours of footage of him in close-up, in medium, in wide, in every kind of lighting, night and day. I can shoot Harrison on Monday because, you know, a 79-year-old playing a 35-year-old, and I can look at the dailies on Wednesday with his head replaced.”

“It’s not a year of trying to get the first pass,” Mangold continued. “It’s incredible technology, and, in many ways, I didn’t think about it. I just focus on shooting what [approximately] a 25-minute opening extravaganza that was my chance to let it rip. The goal is to give viewers a full-bodied sense of what they’re missing. Because when the movie was released in 1969, they had to make adjustments to the current situation, which is different than before.”
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will open in theaters on June 30.
