A pilot and his student were seriously injured when the small plane they were flying crashed into a soccer field in Los Angeles Monday afternoon.
Two bystanders were able to pull the passenger, a woman believed to be in her 30s, out of the plane after it crashed shortly before 1pm at the Field of Dreams park in San Pedro.
Firefighters quickly arrived and rescued the pilot, believed to be about 45 years old, fire officials told KTLA.
“Both patients were transported … in critical condition to say the least,” fire officials said.
Their ages have not been released. No one else was injured in the crash.

JR Romero, who saw the plane go down, ran with another man to help the woman off the plane.
“I opened the door so we could get him out, take his seat belt off, be able to pull him out,” Romero said. “We don’t want to pull the guy out because he’s in worse shape, I think he’s definitely unconscious, at least he’s conscious.”
The single-engine Sling 4 TSI briefly flew over the ocean before crashing in what would normally be a busy park, according to Los Angeles City Councilman Tim McCosker, who represents the area.

“This could have been an even bigger tragedy,” Mcosker said, noting that the park is usually busier on weekends.
The small jet had taken off from the Torrance area and was only in the area for about 30 minutes, LAFD Battalion Chief Shin Black said.
Black said the fact that the field was empty at the time of the crash was “the best outcome we could have hoped for.”

The LAFD is cleaning up fuel that has leaked onto the ground following the crash.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
