Harrowing video shows Texas amusement park worker dangling from ride

Horrific video captures a Texas amusement park operator hanging on for dear life from a ride when an early gust of wind launched him into the air as he tried to help a young girl onto it.

The terrifying incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday during the 54th annual Groves Pecan Festival in Groves, a town about 90 miles east of Houston, KMBT reported.

The operator of “The Bullet” was helping Juliana Bernal into the ride when a sudden gust of wind launched the car into the air.

Instead of letting go, the man grabbed the door and tried to close it to protect Juliana as her legs dangled below.

The square spun 180 degrees and came to rest 30 feet off the ground, shocking carnival spectators who screamed as they watched the deadly scene unfold, according to KFDM, which aired the video.

Several other children were in other compartments on the ground level during the emergency.

The unidentified operator was hailed as a hero after he successfully closed the door.

He was eventually rescued with the girl.

Juliana’s mother, Caress Muraira, described how a fun day turned into a near disaster.

“We just wanted to have a little fun, you know, a family day. We went and got the bracelet. That was the first ride she wanted to do,” Muraira told KMBT about her daughter.

“It started slowly at first and he tried to stop it, the door wouldn’t close. So I started to panic, when he went to close the door, he flew away with it,” he said.

“My daughter was there and talked to him. Said, ‘Please wait! Don’t fall,’” continued Muraira.

Groves Town Marshal Norman Reynolds, who happened to be nearby and also saw the incident, said the ride operator was shocked after the incident.

“My daughter did say that she saw blood on her finger from where she was holding it, that’s why she was worried, said Muraira. “I just wanted to make sure he was OK … They took him and that’s when we couldn’t get to him. So hopefully he can say thank you.”

The operator was not seriously injured and Juliana emerged unharmed.

A spokesperson for the local Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the festival, told USA Today that the vehicle operator was fine.

“Feels like the longest time of my life, you know? I’ve seen this happen on social media before. You never think it will happen to you and then it does,” Muraira told KMBT.

“I am very happy that my daughter was saved, and I am very grateful to the man,” he added.

“The Bullet” was closed for the entire event.
