Heidi Montag Breaks Silence On ‘Messy’ Scrapped Britney Spears Duet

Singer Heidi Montag almost collaborated with none other than the Princess of Pop herself, Britney Spears.

The now 42-year-old pop star has released two duets since a controversial 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021 and a wildly successful memoir titled “The Woman In Me.”

Heidi Montag’s career might have gone in a completely different direction if she had been able to work with the “Toxic” singer earlier in her career.

“It’s too messy to get into, but it’s the whole thing,” he said on Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast while promoting his partnership with Hydroxycut.

For his fifth studio album, blackout, Britney recorded a song called “Dramatic.” The song, produced by Damon Elliott, was unfortunately not included on the final cut of the LP, which was released in October 2007.

A few months later, in March 2008, a version of “Dramatic” with both Britney and Heidi’s vocals was sent to Ryan Seacrest, who played it on his radio show. Unfortunately for fans, the song was never officially released.

Britney’s record label at the time, Jive Records, even claimed that “This was not a planned song or duet in any way.” However, now, more than fifteen years later, Heidi Montag shares a different side of the story.

“Yes, it’s an interesting story. And [my husband] Spencer [Pratt] just passed it on to me the other day. He was like, ‘Maybe we just put out “Dramatic” without Britney in it and you record that part,'” he says. “I never recorded the song entirely myself.”

In January 2010, Heidi finally dropped her own full-length album, self-titled Superficial. He also recorded the song “Fashion” – written by Lady Gaga – himself.

However, on “Virtual Reali-Tea,” Heidi claimed the “Just Dance” singer reclaimed the song for herself once it was chosen for the 2009 “Confessions of a Shopaholic” soundtrack.

“This should be one of my main songs. Then I recorded it and RedOne released a statement about how great it was and how great he thought it was,” Heidi explained, referring to Lady Gaga’s producer and frequent collaborator, Nadir Khayat.

“And [Gaga] lose it and get scared, and RedOne has to delete it [another] statement, like, ‘Oh, I take it back,’ after she got, like, yelled at by Gaga,” Heidi continued.

“That’s my song. And then ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ came because they listened to me [on] it and want … that song. And I thought what happened … he was like, ‘No, that’s my song. I’ll record it,’” he added.

Heidi Also Talks About Losing ‘Reach Out’ To Hillary Duff

Another song he discussed was Hilary Duff’s “Reach Out,” which was the lead single from the 2008 “Best Of” compilation album.

“Hilary Duff is bigger and she’s a singer and has a track record and definitely has priorities. So when I wanted it, A&R was like, ‘Sorry, Hilary’s people just took it,’” he explained. “I was like, ‘OK, fine, sure. No problem.'”

Instead, Heidi was given the song “Body Language,” which featured a “very expensive” sample from Yaz’s 1982 hit “The Situation” paid for by her distributor, Warner Music.

“I think I prefer to have ‘Body Language,'” she explained. “I think that’s better. I actually prefer ‘Body Language’ [than ‘Reach Out’]so I’m not mad about it.”

He is also happy that his debut album is making a comeback in 2023. “I love music, I love pop, it’s always been my biggest dream,” he said. “So to see if that kind of success is the biggest blessing.”

Seeing so many fans enjoying his music this year has inspired him to release more songs from him Superficial era, including the song “Bad Boy.” The song was released on the streaming platform last week.

“I love ‘Bad Boy.’ It is one of my favorite songs. With the rebirth of ‘Superficial,’ basically, and ‘I’ll Do It’ becoming so internationally fashionable, [we were] like, ‘OK, let’s get some stuff out of the safe,’” he said. “There’s a few more in the vault coming out and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
