Hema Malini is a veteran Bollywood actress, film producer, and Indian politician, who is also popularly known as the “Dream Girl.” Apart from working in mainstream Hindi cinema, Hema Malini has also worked in Tamil films as well.

Hema Malini was born Hema Malini Chakravarthy on Saturday, 16 October 1948 (age 73 years; as in 2021) in Jeeyapuram, Tiruchirappalli district, Madras Presidency, India. Her mother was a film producer, and thus, Hema Malini had exposure to the line of films. However, her first love was dancing and she wanted to work in films as a dancer. He was in the twelfth grade when he appeared as a dancer in his first film.
In 1964, she auditioned for the Tamil film “Venniradai” but was rejected by director CVSridhar because she was thin at the time. Later, he made his debut with the Hindi film “Sapno Ka Saudagar,” which did not do well at the box office.
After her debut film, Hema Malini has not looked back; he was showered with more film offers. Her performances in the rom-com “Seeta Aur Geeta” and the film “Sholay” earned her praise.

Hema Malini was born in a Tamil-speaking Hindu family. His mother, Jaya Lakshmi Chakravarti, is a film producer in the South Indian Film Industry. His father’s name is VSR Chakravarti. He is the youngest of his two brothers RKChakravarti and RJChakravarti; who is also a film producer.
Mesmerized by Hema’s beauty, Bollywood actor Sanjeev Kumar proposed to her, but she rejected the proposal. Later, she was involved in an affair with her co-actor Jeetendra; this relationship could not last long and, eventually, ended.
While working with Dharmendra in the blockbuster Sholay, Hema Malini was attracted to him. Both express their feelings and decide to get married. At the time, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur, and according to Hindu rituals, he could not marry Hema until he divorced his first wife. But his wife is not ready to divorce him. Finally, Hema Malini and Dharmendra turned into Islam and married on May 2, 1980.
The couple has two daughters Esha Deol (Actress) and Ahana Deol.
Her stepsons are famous Bollywood actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
Film Career
Hema Malini has been interested in dancing since childhood. She started learning to dance at a very young age. He attended Andhra Mahila Sabha in Chennai, and later, Delhi Tamil Education Association Sr. Sec. School in Delhi. He is good at studies and likes the subject of history the most. Becoming more interested in dancing, he left his studies in between and started a career as a dancer in regional films in 1961.
As a producer, Hema’s mother wanted her to become an actress. But he could not make a place in South Indian films as an actor even though he continued to work as a dancer. In 1968, he made his acting debut with the Raj Kapoor-starrer Hindi film “Sapno Ka Saudagar.” He is a fresh face, which every director wants to cast in their film. So, his journey as an actor began.
In a career that spanned more than two decades, he worked with every famous actor of his time. She appeared in 15 films with Superstar Rajesh Khanna. He worked with Dev Anand, Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, and many other famous artists. Hema Malini made her place as one of the highest paid actresses in the industry within four years of her debut.
He worked in over 155 films including, Tum Haseen Main Jawaan, Sholay, Lal Patthar, Andaaz, Naseeb, Gora Aur Kala, Dharmatma, Sanyasi, Satte Pe Satta, Dream Girl, Trishul, Suraag, Kranti, Andha Kanoon, Sitapur Ki Geeta, and others.
Hema Malini is trained in classical Indian dance forms including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniattam. He continues to perform on stage in addition to acting. Her daughters are also trained in Odissi and have performed in many charity events with their mother.

Hema Malini made her directorial debut with Dil Aashna Hai, which was Shahrukh Khan’s first signed film.
She received critical acclaim for her performance in her comeback film Baghban (2003) and was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Political career
In 1999, Hema Malini campaigned for Vinod Khanna (BJP), and in 2004, she joined the BJP as a member of parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He was appointed as the general secretary of the BJP in March 2010. He was later elected as a member of the Lok Sabha in 2014 by defeating Jayant Chaudhary by 3,30,743 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, he again emerged victorious by winning the election from Mathura Constituency in Uttar Pradesh with a margin of 2,93,471 votes.
Controversy
- The news hit the TV screens when it was revealed that Hema Malini was allotted an area of 2000 square feet to conduct dance classes. The land was actually worth INR 50 Crore (approx) but was allotted only for INR 70,000 by the BJP led Government to Hema Malini.
- He was also criticized for his tweets about widows coming from Bihar and West Bengal, who live in Vrindavan. According to his tweet, they cannot gather in Vrindavan.
- In 2015, his Mercedes car injured a two-year-old child. The girl died of her injuries in hospital.
- Because of her low presence in Parliament, Hema Malini often faces criticism.
