Furthermore, Herb Kohl remained celibate throughout his life. Herbert H. Kohl was born on February 7, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to a family of immigrants from Europe. He graduated from Washington High School in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1958, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Kohl also worked as a real estate and stock market investor after finishing graduate school. Kohl was a United States Senator for nearly 20 years until deciding not to run in the 2012 Senate race. Herb worked quietly and without asking for praise, but he succeeded on topics critical to the state, especially dairy legislation. Likewise, Kohl provided $25 million to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s new sports stadium, renamed the Kohl Center.
Kohl established the Herb Kohl Education Foundation Achievement Award Program in 1990, which provides annual awards to graduating seniors, instructors and schools around Wisconsin. In fact, he chose not to run for the position of Senator in 2012, stating,
“I am not the owner of this office. It belongs to the people of Wisconsin, and there’s something to be said for being out of office for extended periods.
