  • National parks and monuments will be closed, including Federal Hall, Gateway National Recreation Area, Governors Island and the Statue of Liberty.
  • 19,300 active duty members of the armed forces in New York will not be paid. They may be reimbursed after the closing ends.
  • Federal workers helping with undocumented immigrants in New York City will not be paid, possibly delaying work authorization permits. Relevant personnel in the Department of Labor may be laid off.
  • Transportation Security Administration workers and air traffic controllers will work without pay during the shutdown, creating the threat of walkouts and delays. During the 2019 shutdown, as many as 170 TSA employees at JFK Airport called each day.
  • City businesses that get loans from the Small Business Administration will have to wait until the shutdown ends.
  • The Food and Drug Administration could be forced to suspend food safety inspections for meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables.
  • Amtrak, Social Security and the Postal Service will all continue to operate.
