Billy Porter is feeling the brunt of the writer’s strike
Tensions continue to rise amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America [WGA] and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists [SAG-AFTRA] strike In the midst of it all, Porter has revealed the inevitability of selling his home, claiming that the current situation has “thrown him away.”
The Strikes Honor Billy Porter’s Luxury Home In Los Angeles
Porter has publicly revealed that he has been forced to sell his home in Los Angeles. The admission, which came during a conversation with the United Kingdom’s Evening Standard, saw him state:
“I had to sell my house. Because we are on strike. And I don’t know when we’ll be back [to work]. The life of an artist, until you make f**k-you money — which I haven’t made yet — is still check to check.”
The actor, best known for his role in the drama series, “Pose,” explained that two Hollywood projects — “a new movie and a new television show starting in September” — that he was supposed to be working on are no longer happening.

Referring to a controversial statement made by an undisclosed studio executive recently, the “80 for Brady” star added, “So to the people who said ‘We’re going to starve them until they have to sell their apartments,’ You’ve already made I am hungry.”
Porter didn’t stop there as he specifically called out Disney CEO Bob Iger and expressed his disappointment and anger with the latter’s comments regarding the strike. In his words:
“To hear Bob Iger say that our demand for a living wage is unrealistic? Whereas he makes $78,000 a day? I don’t have any words for that, except: ‘f**k you.’ [But] that’s useless, so I’ve kept my mouth shut. I’m not engaged yet because I’m so angry.”
The voice actor of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” reflects further on the reasons behind the slow business in Hollywood and the strike, stating:
“In the late ’50s, early ’60s, when they worked out a way for artists to be properly compensated through residual [payments], it allows 2% of working actors and there are 150,000 people in our union, who work consistently. Then streaming comes in. There is no contract for that and they don’t have to be transparent with the numbers.”
Ultimately, the most important thing for Porter is that the contract “evolves,” just as show business has evolved over the years.
Star Performers Get Full Moments With This James Baldwin Biopic

Just before the performers began their attack, The Blast reported that Porter had landed a gig to play the role of civil rights activist James Baldwin in an upcoming biopic. According to the report, the “Like a Boss” actor will also showcase his writing skills and work with Dan McCabe.
The screenplay is expected to take cues from author David Leeming’s 1994 book, “James Baldwin: A Biography.” Sharing his excitement for the job, Porter declared:
“As the queer black man on the planet with relative consciousness, I find myself, as James Baldwin said, ‘in a rage all the time.’ I’m because of James. I stand on the shoulders of James Baldwin, and I intend to expand his legacy for generations to come.”
This might just be the project that earned the “Anything’s Possible” performer that seemingly elusive Oscar, which is the only thing keeping it from EGOT status. He first earned a Tony Award for his performance in the 2013 Broadway production, “Kinky Boots.”
Since he appeared in the drama’s eponymous album, he won a Grammy the same year for it. Later in 2019, he was nominated for and won an Emmy Award for his role as Pray Tell in “Pose.” Strange as it sounds, Porter took a leaf out of Baldwin’s book during his acceptance speech that night, saying:
“James Baldwin said, ‘it took years to spit out all the filth I had been taught about myself and halfway believed before I could walk this earth like I had a right to be here.’ I have rights, you have rights, we all have rights.”
