An Idaho high school is under fire after images emerged of a group of students spewing racial slurs on their T-shirts — while standing behind a mixed-race girl.
A student at Salmon High School posted a since-deleted photo on Instagram showing six kids wearing shirts spelling out the n-word as they stood behind the girl as she lay on the ground, the East Idaho News reported.
All seven also raised their middle fingers.
School district Superintendent Troy Easterday said students were reprimanded for the offensive image.
“Salmon school district, we do not condone, and never have what was stated in the social media post,” he told the outlet. “Disciplinary action has currently been taken.”
The district also notified law enforcement and board members of the incident, KTVB reported.

Easterday told the outlet that the student said the post was “not maliciously” made.
“The Salmon school district administration team is currently investigating this post and will make sure the community is aware within the limits of the law,” Easterday said in a Facebook video.
But many parents expressed their concern that students of color have been targeted and bullied.

A mother of a mixed-race child says she worries every day about such behavior.
“The post is disgusting and a hate crime. I am shy and shy. My husband is one of two, maybe three African Americans in this town,” the woman told the East Idaho News on condition of anonymity.
“I’m afraid if I talk too much, it will affect my job or my small business,” he added.
Another mother said she was worried the student involved would not be punished and added that she was considering pulling her children out of the district.

“The reason why there is hatred in this community is because no one is doing anything about it. Period,” the woman told the outlet, also on condition of anonymity.
“These children are old enough to know right from wrong. Parents, do better. But you can not blame the parents for this, because some of them [the students] aged 18 years. They are adults. It’s disturbing,” he added.
Easterday insisted that he had never seen anything like it during his time as the district chief.
“Nothing has ever been brought to my desk that a situation like this ever happened, and it was not taken seriously. Not while I’m here,” he told KTVB. “Our team did not hesitate to act. We are taking all the proper legal steps to ensure disciplinary action is taken.”
