“We’ve had very strong partisanship in both parties in the past, and we’ve had very intense battles over all kinds of things — gun control and climate change and the economy and taxes — but there’s not been this little tail of extremism, wagging, you know, wagging the dog of the Republican Party like today,” Clinton told host Christiane Amanpour.
“And unfortunately, so many of those extremists, MAGA extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump who has no credibility left in any measure,” he continued, referring to the 77-year-old’s Make America Great Again slogan. “He’s just doing it for himself.”

The former first lady, senator from New York and secretary of state urged “sane” and “pragmatic” Republicans to work with colleagues across the aisle to neutralize “extreme measures and the people who promote them.”
Asked how that could happen given Trump’s lead in the 2024 presidential race, Clinton said she and her supporters must suffer a “defeat” at the ballot box.

Clinton also said Trump’s insurgent campaign had “given voice” to white nationalist and antisemitic ideas by repeating their “rhetoric” in social media posts.
Trump’s campaign countered that the comments “exposed his true contempt for the American people every day,” forcing him to take them back in a statement the next day.

“Last night I was ‘very generalistic,’ and that’s not a good idea,” Clinton said. “I regret saying ‘half’ – that was wrong.”
As of 2019, Clinton has referred to Trump as an “illegitimate president,” claiming in a CBS “Sunday Morning” interview that her campaign engaged in “voter suppression,” “voter purge,” “hacking” and “fake stories” to win. election.
